Before We Start:
The surface of the wall must be smooth, clean, dry and sound. Flaking paint and loose wallpaper should be removed, and any uneven surfaces must be filled. Give the wall a prime coating if its colour is very different from the new wallpaper. Very absorbent surfaces, such as plaster walls, should be sized.
Preparing the paste:
- Use a bucket and whisk to mix with.
- Sprinkle content of package into 4 litres of cold water, mixing briskly for 30 seconds.
- After approximately 3 minutes stir again.
- After 15 minutes give it a good final stir and it is ready to use.
- Unused adhesive can be stored for about 14 days.
Please Note: Always use the right adhesive for proper finishing of the wallpaper, do not hesitate to call us in case there is any doubt about the mixing of adhesive.
Rollers and tray
To keep the edges from curling, setting them with a roller is a must. But the same
rule that applies to the smoother applies to the roller: Don’t press too hard or you’ll
squeeze out too much adhesive. Always keep a tray for keeping the rollers from
getting the adhesive everywhere.
Bucket
A bucket is the accumulator of all messy things wallpaper(which there
aren’t many) and they are a staple while keeping the entire process as
clean and fine as possible. Use it for the rollers, the papers, and the
additional tools as well.
Paintbrush
A paper-hanging brush should be the way to go if you are going to try to get the smoothest finish possible when applying wallpaper. They have considerably softer bristles that will make it very easy to smooth out any air bubbles that may be hiding behind the paper, as well as any extra paste that will otherwise leave lumps.
Spirit level or plumb line
A small pencil mark can be made at the upper wall areas. The spirit level needs to be vertically aligned with the pencil mark and it is followed by a line being drawn along the spirit level. It is then positioned at the end of the line accordingly. If it is positioned in the middle, the alignment is perfect.
Steel ruler
It is a must for creating, controlling, and modifying the alignment of the wallpaper. Use it to adjust with the spirit level or Plumb line or the overall dimensions of the wallpaper region. Use a ruler or straight edge to trim the top and bottom of your paper. This is the same way you trim around any doors and windows on your wall. Just make sure your ruler is tight against the trim you are cutting against and that you use a fresh new blade with every cut.
Wallpaper sponge
Now before moving up to the next
layer, we need a wallpaper sponge to
help clean wallpaper glue from the
wall.
Pencil
As told previously, a pencil needs to be
used for creating border seams while
positioning the spirit level or plumb line
accordingly.
Craft knife
A craft knife is handy to have when you are going to be hanging wallpaper, as you will want to use this tool to cut your wallpaper at the ceiling and along the floor or the baseboard. Rather than trying to make this cut with scissors, which can be difficult to do and end up with an uneven line, when you use a craft knife you will be able to work quickly and cut through the paper purposefully so that there is not a jagged edge.
Wallpapering tool or brush
Soft Bristled brushes and foam rollers are the way to go for the entire process.
